Case Updates

On November 23, 2020, Baigel Corp. (“Baigel“) was appointed receiver (the “Receiver“) of the assets, undertakings and properties of Jones Media Inc. (“JMI“) and I3Science Inc. (“I3Science” and, together with JMI, the “Companies“) pursuant to an Order (the “Receivership Order“) by the Honourable Mr. Justice Cavanagh of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice (Commercial List) (the “Court“).

On December 3, 2020, the Court issued an Order (the “Interim Relief Order“) that, among other things, relieved the Receiver from compliance with the provisions of subsections 245(1), 245(2) and 246 of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, and from sending other notices to creditors, customers or suppliers of the Companies or other third parties contracting with the Companies until December 17, 2020 at 5:00 pm or such other time as may be ordered by the Court; provided that the Receiver shall provide notice of its appointment in the prescribed form and manner to the Superintendent of Bankruptcy and provided that the Receiver shall not be restricted from interacting with financial institutions or any person holding funds of the Companies, those parties it has already contacted and any person who contacts the Receiver on an unsolicited basis.

On December 17, 2020, the Court issued an Order (the “Discharge Order“) that provided for, among other things, the Receiver’s discharge after completion of certain remaining activities. The Receiver completed such remaining activities on December 22, 2020 and filed its certificate of discharge with the Court.
